Voice messages from CheapMeet calls

#

Members of paid workspaces can receive App voicemail without a telephone number or phone licence. When a CheapMeet call is declined or unanswered, or the person is already in a call, the caller can choose to leave a voice message of up to one minute. Recording starts only when the caller chooses Record message; meetings are not recorded.

App voice messages appear in App voicemail on your Calls page. New messages appear in Activity and, if enabled, as desktop notifications. They are not emailed. Messages are kept for 30 days unless deleted sooner. Do not disturb blocks calls, including favorites, and does not offer voicemail.

Where your messages appear

#

When someone calls your CheapMeet number and nobody answers, they can leave a message. Messages appear in the Voicemail card on your Calls page (Calls in the navigation on the left), newest first, with who called, when, and how long the message is. New messages are marked New.

Messages left on the workspace’s main number are marked Main number. They appear only for the people who can hear them (see the main number’s shared inbox).

How you hear about a new message

#

A new message adds "New voicemail from {number}" to Activity, and pops up in the corner with Play, which opens the message on your Calls page and starts it. Messages on the main number say "New voicemail on the main number from {number}".

Calls in the navigation shows how many messages you haven’t heard yet, counting your own and the main number’s messages you can hear. It goes down as you play messages, mark them as heard or delete them.

The Activity item and the pop-up follow Missed calls in Settings → Notifications: with it off, new messages still appear on your Calls page and in the count, but not in Activity. While you are on Do not disturb or presenting, the message goes to Activity without a pop-up.

Play, mark, save or delete a message

#
  • Play a message with its player. Playing it marks it as heard.
  • Mark as heard or Mark as unheard (the envelope button) changes it without playing it, for example to come back to it later.
  • Download saves the message as an MP3 file named with the day it arrived and the caller’s number. Downloading it marks it as heard.
  • Call back rings the caller from your number (US and Canadian numbers).
  • Delete removes the message and its recording for good. A main-number message you delete is gone for everyone who shares that inbox.

Heard or not is shared too: when someone plays or marks a main-number message, it changes for everyone who can hear it.

The main number’s shared inbox

#

Calls to the workspace’s main number that nobody answers (or that come in outside business hours) go to one shared inbox. The people the main number rings, and every owner and admin, can hear, mark, download and delete those messages. Owners and admins choose who the main number rings in Workspace settings → Phone.

The people the main number rings are told about each new message. If it rings nobody, owners and admins are told instead.

How long messages are and how long they are kept

#

A message can be up to 2 minutes long; the recording stops there. Messages are kept for 30 days and then deleted with their recording, heard or not. Download any you want to keep.

Voicemail has no transcript.

Turn voicemail on or off

#

In Settings → Calling, under When you don’t answer, turn Take a voicemail on or off for telephone calls. With it off, callers you don’t answer hear that you aren’t available. If you forward calls to another phone, unanswered forwarded calls go to voicemail when it is on.

Owners and admins set whether voicemail starts on for new phone users with Voicemail on by default in Workspace settings → Phone.

Email notifications

#

CheapMeet emails you when a new telephone voicemail arrives: who called (their number), when (in your time zone), how long the message is and whether it was left for you or on the main number, with a link to your Calls page. The email never contains the recording or a transcript: you play it in CheapMeet. App voicemail from CheapMeet calls uses Activity and enabled desktop notifications, without email.

Telephone voicemail emails are on unless you turn them off: in Settings → Notifications, switch off Email me about new telephone voicemail and choose Save changes. This is separate from Missed calls, which controls Activity. Main-number messages are emailed to the people the main number rings (or owners and admins), each following their own setting.

Custom greeting

#

Callers hear a greeting before the tone. Unless you change it, it’s a standard one saying the person they called isn’t available (or, on the main number, that nobody is available or that you are closed).

To use your own words, open Settings → Calling and, under When you don’t answer, choose Edit next to Greeting (it shows while Take a voicemail is on). Type up to 300 characters and choose Save greeting. A computer voice reads it out, in the same voice as the standard greeting; you can’t record your own audio. Use default goes back to the standard greeting.

Owners and admins set the main number’s greetings in Workspace settings → Phone, under Main number: Greeting when nobody answers plays during business hours when nobody picks up, and Greeting after hours plays outside them. Each is saved on its own with Save greeting.
