Account and sign-in

Email sign-in links, Apple, Google, Microsoft and GitHub sign-in, passwords, email verification, your profile and personal settings.

Ways to sign in

#

At cheapmeet.com/signin, enter your Email and choose Send sign-in link. Or, under Or continue with, choose Continue with Apple, Continue with Google, Continue with Microsoft or Continue with GitHub when it is available. Personal and work accounts both work, and email-link sign-in needs no password.

Email links work once and expire after 15 minutes. Opening the link shows Confirm sign-in; check the email address and choose Continue to CheapMeet. First-time users may then be asked to set up their profile. If the link expired or was already used, return to sign-in and choose Send another link or request a new one.

If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder and the address you entered. Use a different email lets you correct it. For privacy, the inbox message does not confirm whether an account exists. Never share a sign-in link.

Use the same sign-in each time so you return to the same account. An email sign-in link always reaches the account for that address. To sign in another way as well, add a sign-in method.

If your email already has an account

#

If you choose a Continue with option you have not used with CheapMeet before, and its email address already has a CheapMeet account, you may see An account with this email already exists.

CheapMeet only trusts a service's word for an email address when that service runs the address: Google for a Gmail address or one your company runs with Google, Apple for an iCloud or Hide My Email address, and Microsoft when Microsoft confirms the address is yours. GitHub doesn't run email addresses, so it never does. Without this rule, anyone who once used your address with one of these services could get into your account.

  1. Sign in the way you did before, or enter your Email on the sign-in page and choose Send sign-in link.
  2. Open Settings → Privacy and, under Sign-in methods, choose Add next to the service.
  3. Sign in to the service when it asks. From then on, it signs you in to this account.

If you are new to CheapMeet and the service doesn't run your address, your account is still created, and we email you a link to confirm the address. You need a confirmed email to create or join a workspace.

Add or remove a sign-in method

#

Settings → Privacy → Sign-in methods lists every way you can sign in: Email link, Password if you have one, and each service you added, with its email address and the date you added it.

  1. Choose Add next to Apple, Google, Microsoft or GitHub.
  2. Sign in to that service. You come back to Sign-in methods, which says whether it was added.
  • You need a confirmed email address to add one. If yours isn't confirmed yet, see Verify your email.
  • Your account can have one sign-in from each service. A service account that already signs in to another CheapMeet account can't be added.
  • To remove a service, choose Remove next to it and confirm. You can't remove your only way to sign in, so add another one first.
  • We email you each time a sign-in method is added or removed. If you didn't make the change, check your sign-in methods and sign out on every device.

Password rules

#

Email-link sign-in does not require a password. These rules apply if you have an existing password or use the password-reset page.

  • Between 10 and 128 characters.
  • Not a common password, and not your email address.

After five wrong passwords from one network in 15 minutes, sign-in from that network is paused for 15 minutes. After 20 wrong passwords from anywhere, the account is paused everywhere for 15 minutes. The message says how long to wait.

Reset your password

#
  1. For an existing password, open Reset your password. The current sign-in page uses email links instead of a password form.
  2. Type your email and choose Send reset link. For your privacy we always say a link was sent, whether or not the address has an account.
  3. Open the email and choose Choose a new password. The link works once, for 30 minutes.
  4. Type and confirm the new password and choose Save new password.

Resetting your password signs you out on every device and marks your email as verified. You can still return using an email sign-in link; creating a password is not required.

If you can't sign in

#
  • Invalid or expired link: request a new email sign-in link and open it within 15 minutes. Each link works once.
  • An account with this email already exists: see If your email already has an account.
  • We couldn't sign you in with that provider: try again, or enter your Email and use a sign-in link instead.
  • Too many attempts: wait for the time the message gives before requesting another link.
  • We're busy right now: a lot of people are signing in at the same moment. Wait a few seconds and try again; nothing is wrong with your account.
  • Account suspended: you cannot sign in while your account is suspended. Your workspaces and messages aren't deleted. Email support@cheapmeet.com to ask about it.

If your account is suspended while you're using CheapMeet, you leave any call you're in and every open CheapMeet tab goes back to the sign-in page.

Verify your email

#

A verified email is needed to create or join a workspace and send invitations. To resend the email, open Settings → Profile and choose Resend email next to your address, or follow the prompt on the invitation page. After verification, return to the invitation to join.

Email-link sign-in verifies your address as part of signing in. Signing in with a service that runs your address, such as Google for a Gmail address, verifies it too. The separate verification email is only needed if your account still shows an unverified address.

The verification link works for 24 hours and only while you are signed in to the account it was sent for. If you open it while signed out, sign in and it finishes verifying.

Your profile

#

Open your picture in the top-right corner and choose Profile (or go to Settings → Profile).

  • Profile photo: a PNG, JPEG or WebP image up to 2 MB.
  • Full name (up to 64 characters) and Title (up to 120).
  • Time zone: used for every time CheapMeet shows you, including scheduled meetings.
  • Appearance: Dark, Light or Match my system, which follows your device’s light or dark setting and changes when it does. The app starts in dark mode. Appearance in the picture menu switches between dark and light.
  • Show my status to guests, Status follows my calendar and Compact contact list.

Your email address can't be changed in the app. Choose Save changes after editing.

Audio and video settings

#

Settings → Audio & video sets your default camera, microphone and speaker, with a live preview, an input level meter, Test speaker and Test mic.

Choose None, Blur, or Image under Background. You can choose a landscape or upload your own image; uploaded backgrounds stay in this browser. Background effects use more processing power and require a supported device.

Leave a workspace

#

In Settings → Profile, choose Leave workspace and confirm. You lose access to its meetings, chat and contacts, and an admin can invite you back. If you are the only owner, make someone else an owner first.

Sign out or delete your account

#

Choose Sign out in your account menu. If you are in a call, signing out leaves it. To sign out on every device at once, see Sign out on every device.

  1. Open Settings → Privacy and choose Delete account.
  2. Confirm with your password. If your account has no password, choose to get an email and open the link in it while signed in.
  3. Choose Delete account. You are signed out everywhere.
  • Your profile, photo, sign-in details, call history and notifications are removed. Messages you sent stay in their workspaces and show as from "Deleted user".
  • If you are the only owner of a workspace that has other members, make someone else an owner or close the workspace first.
  • A workspace where you are the only member is closed along with your account.
  • You can sign up again later with the same email address.

See the Privacy policy for what is deleted and what is kept.

Sign out on every device

#
  1. Open Settings → Privacy.
  2. Under Signed-in devices, choose Sign out everywhere.
  3. Choose Sign out everywhere again to confirm.

You're signed out on every browser and device, including the one you're using, and leave any call you're in. Sign in again to keep going. Use it after signing in on a shared computer or losing a phone. If someone else may know your password, reset your password as well.

Export your data

#

In Settings → Privacy, under Your data, choose Export your data. You get an email and a notification when it's ready, and you download it there while signed in. The link works for 7 days.

The export has your profile and settings, your sign-in methods (names only), your workspaces, the messages you sent, your meeting, call and phone call history, your calendar settings (including whether you share busy times from connected calendars), and your own calendar events with their notes and repeat rules. Other people's messages and private details aren't included.
