Notifications and status
Your presence status, Activity, desktop notifications, chat pop-ups and quiet hours.
Your status
#Your status shows on your picture across the app. It is set automatically: Available while you are using CheapMeet, In a call during a call, Presenting while you share your screen, Away after five minutes without activity in every tab, and Offline about two minutes after you close the app.
To set it yourself, select your picture in the top-right corner, open Status, and pick Available, Busy, Do not disturb, Be right back, Appear away or Appear offline. Use Duration to reset it after 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, today, this week, or never. Reset status goes back to automatic.
Do not disturb blocks app calls, even from favorites or while you are already in a call. It also stops new voice-message offers. Favorites can bypass Quiet hours, but cannot bypass Do not disturb. Busy is an advisory status and does not block calls.
Guests in your meetings see your status and status message only if Show my status to guests is on in Settings → Profile.
Add a status message
#A status message tells people more than your status, for example "🦷 Dentist, back at 3". It shows next to your status at the top of your chats with people, on your contact card and in the People list.
- Select your picture in the top-right corner and choose Set status message.
- Enter up to 100 characters on one line. The smiley button adds an emoji.
- Under Clear after, choose when it goes away: 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, today, this week, or never.
- Choose Save.
To change it, choose Edit status message. Clear message removes it at once.
Let your calendar set your status
#Turn on Status follows my calendar in Settings → Profile to show Busy during your meetings and Out of office during out-of-office events, without setting it yourself. It is off until you turn it on.
- It counts CheapMeet meetings you organize or accepted, events you add to your CheapMeet calendar and events from your connected calendars.
- Meetings you haven't answered or answered Maybe, time your calendar shows as free, and all-day events other than out of office don't make you busy.
- A status you set yourself, a call and presenting come first. When they end, your calendar decides again.
- Out of office shows even while CheapMeet is closed. Busy from your calendar shows only while CheapMeet is open, like a status you set.
Activity
#Activity in the navigation on the left collects what happened while you were away: mentions, replies to your messages, reactions to your messages, missed calls (in red), voicemails, meeting invitations, reminders for meetings and for your own calendar events, reminders about messages you asked for, "meeting started" alerts, and notices such as moderation alerts. It shows a count of new items.
- Filter with All, Unread, Mentions or Calls. Mark all read clears the count.
- Each item opens exactly what it is about, highlighted so you can spot it.
- Selecting a message opens its conversation beside the list, at that message.
- A missed call opens Calls at that call in Recent calls, where Call back returns it. A voicemail opens that message. If a call is no longer in your history, Calls says so.
- Meeting items open the meeting on Calendar, on its day, with its details and Join while it is running. A reminder for your own event opens that event.
- When someone you invited as a workspace owner or admin joins, "{name} joined {workspace}" opens that person in Workspace settings → Members.
- Where External access is available, workspace owners and admins receive partner requests and expiry reminders here. The requesting side also hears when a request is accepted, declined or expires. Open the item to review that partner.
Items are kept for 90 days. If a reply is deleted or a reaction is taken back, its item goes away; a mention goes away if the message is deleted or edited to remove you, and a message reminder if its message is deleted.
Reminders for your own calendar events are part of the Personal calendar preview, available in selected workspaces. Meeting reminders remain available without that preview.
Chat pop-ups and sounds
#A new message pops up in the corner with a chime, unless you are already looking at that conversation, the conversation is muted, or you are presenting. Selecting the pop-up opens the conversation at that message. Mentions get their own pop-up with Open.
With Do not disturb, or while presenting, chat pop-ups and sounds stop and mentions go to Activity only. Unread counts always update.
Desktop notifications
#Open your account menu, choose Settings → Notifications, then Enable desktop notifications. Allow the request from your browser. Set this up on each browser or device where you want alerts.
You may also see a desktop-notifications banner in the app. Enable opens the browser permission request. Not now hides the banner on that device; it can return once after a missed call. Choosing Not now again stops the banner, but you can still enable notifications in Settings. CheapMeet never opens the browser permission request without your action.
Desktop notifications can reach you when no CheapMeet tab or app window is open. Select a notification to open the relevant meeting, call or conversation. Meeting alerts offer Join; Dismiss closes the alert.
Your notification settings, Do not disturb and Quiet hours also apply to desktop alerts. Your operating system controls whether notifications appear and which sounds it plays.
Choose Turn off desktop notifications to stop desktop alerts in that browser. If notifications are blocked, allow CheapMeet in your browser settings, then return to Settings → Notifications. Signing out stops desktop notifications for your account on that browser.
On Windows, Chrome or Edge needs to be allowed to run in the background. Check your browser and Windows notification settings if alerts do not arrive. You can install CheapMeet to use its own app window.
On iPhone and iPad, notifications require CheapMeet to be added to the Home Screen and opened from there before you allow notifications. The rest of the app still has the mobile limits described in the introduction.
Meeting start alerts
#When a meeting you organize or are invited to reaches its start time, or someone joins it before then, a card appears in the corner: "{title} is starting" with Join meeting and a close button. A short, quiet chime plays once, even with CheapMeet open in several tabs, and it follows your device volume.
You aren't alerted for a meeting you declined, one you're already in, or one that was cancelled.
Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked or typed in the page, so if CheapMeet was opened but not used yet, the card still appears without the chime.
To see alerts while CheapMeet is in the background, choose Enable desktop notifications in Settings → Notifications, or Enable on the in-app banner, and accept your browser's prompt. The browser permission request opens only after you choose to enable it. Selecting the desktop notification opens the meeting.
With Do not disturb, while presenting, or during quiet hours, the card still appears so you can join, but without the chime. Do not disturb, presenting and quiet hours also skip the desktop notification.
Notification settings
#Open your account menu, choose Settings, then Notifications:
- Chat messages: pop-ups for direct messages and group chats.
- Mentions only in groups: skip group messages unless you are @mentioned.
- Meeting reminders: reminders before scheduled meetings, and before your own events where the Personal calendar preview is available.
- Meeting start alerts: the "{title} is starting" card when a meeting begins. Play a sound adds the chime.
- Desktop notifications: allow supported call, message and meeting alerts while CheapMeet is in the background. Other notification preferences still apply.
- Message sounds: play a sound for new messages.
- Quiet hours: between From and Until, pop-ups still show but without sound.
