Meetings and calls

Calls

Ring one person or a group for a voice or video call, answer incoming calls, and what happens when nobody answers.

Start a call

#
  • In a direct message, choose Call (audio) or the video button in the header. You can also hover over the conversation in the chat list and choose Call.
  • In a group chat, choose Meet now in the header to start a meeting in the chat and ring everyone in it.
  • On someone's contact card (on the People page, or by selecting their name), choose Call {name} in CheapMeet.
  • In Calls, choose Call back on a call in Recent calls.

While it rings you see "Calling {name}…" with Cancel. A call rings for 30 seconds. Voice and video calls count toward your minutes the same way.

Answer a call

#

An incoming call shows "{name} is calling" with Accept and Decline, and plays your ringtone. Accepting while you are in another call leaves that call first.

Calls don't ring while you are on Do not disturb, presenting, in quiet hours, or if Incoming calls is off in your notification settings. Calls from favorites still ring in quiet hours. Missed calls appear in Activity and show in red in Calls → Recent calls. Selecting a missed call in Activity opens Calls at that call, highlighted, where Call back returns it.

During a call

#

One-to-one calls show the other person large and you in a corner you can drag; Hide my video on it hides it from your screen only, and Show my video brings it back. Group calls use a grid. The bar has Mute, Camera, Share, Raise hand (group calls), React, Add people, Chat, and More for Hold, Whiteboard and Pop out call.

Add people rings more people; everyone already in stays, and a one-to-one call becomes a group call. Chat messages go to your conversation with those people and stay there.

When a call ends

#

If nobody answers you see "{name} didn't answer", "{name} declined" or "{name} is busy" with Call again and Send a message. After a call you see "Call ended" with its length. A one-to-one call ends for both people when either hangs up; a group call ends a minute after only one person is left.

You can ring up to 10 times a minute, and the same person up to 6 times in 10 minutes. You can't call someone who blocked you.
